Lovely Things

All the lovely things. We loose sight of them in our every day. It happens so quickly and so subtly, we don't even realize it's happened. When was the last time you stopped to notice the beauty unfolding before you?
If you're a mom or dad, then you know how amazing it is to watch your children grow. That first year flies by and the next few years after that are filled with so much awe as your baby learns to do new things. We get a kick out of watching them discover their fingers and toes. They learn to crawl and walk, and they face the world in a way that only a child could. Curious wonder followed by show stopping amazement at the things around them.
Soon, we loose sight of things that once sparked joy or curiosity in us. It's not that those things are no longer around. I believe its because we've stopped paying attention. Don't beat yourself up for not being present in your moment. You can change that. It happens to all of us, we get caught up with work, or distracted with social media, games on our phone. So many different things pull our attention. I can't count how many times my sweet daughter has tried getting my attention and I've ignored her because something on my phone was occupying my time. Even though in my heart there is NOTHING more important to me than my family, moments like those show something different. I want to make memories with my children not with my phone. I don't want my husband to be in a relationship with a wife who tends to her phone more than she does him.
There are times when I catch myself doing this, and I stop, put my phone down and watch my daughter show me her new twirl. Watch my son show me a "cool" new trick he's doing with his little toy car. Sometimes I leave my phone at home while we take our dog CeCe out for a walk together. And you know what? Lovely things happen.
I admire the trees and their silent beauty. I admire the lush green grass, and even the weeds growing throughout it. The unreserved laughter of my children brings my heart joy. Watching them run freely, enjoying being in the open is a sight so sweet to my spirit. I begin to think about how blessed I am, my heart is filled with thankfulness. I get overwhelmed with how amazing it has been seeing my life unfold before me. Knowing where I've been, where I am now, and eager to see what is to come. Being present in a moment, opens up our hearts and our minds to see all the lovely things, to experience all the lovely things.
This isn't reserved for any one special person, it is for everyone. Take time to be present, and purposely look for the lovely things unfolding in that moment, in that hour, in that day, in that week. Think on things that are worth filing your mind with. You have the power to do that, to choose what you want to let in. Choose thankfulness, kindness, joy, peace, love, pureness of heart.
Beauty is everywhere, if you only look for it. Lovely things are around you, waiting to be taken in.
